KMBC-TV, Kansas City, Missouri TheKansasCityChannel.com Teen Baby Sitter Fights Off Attacker Attempted Rapist Described As Having Bad Acne POSTED: 9:46 pm CDT September 26, 2007 UPDATED: 10:26 pm CDT September 26, 2007 WESTON, Mo. -- Police are searching for the magazine salesman who tried to rape a teenage baby sitter. The baby sitter was looking after an 8-month-old girl at a home in the 800 block of Ashley Street. She said there was a salesman who knocked at the door; she told him she wasn't interested. About an hour later, a different salesman came to the door, but he wouldn't take no for an answer. "I've always had my door unlocked. Now I can't trust anybody," said Lacey, the mother of the 8-month-old. She didn't want her last name used. Lacey said she wasn't worried about leaving her baby in the care of Heaven, a teenage baby sitter. And Heaven said she hadn't been worried about opening the door to a pimple- faced magazine salesman. "He didn't have any papers or anything like that. I said, 'I'm not interested.' I went to close the door and he slammed it back open," Heaven said. The teen said the man forced his way through the doorway into the home. "We wrestled on the ground for a little bit. I got up again, he kept pushing me into the corner," Heaven said. "I'm sure his intentions were to rape me -- he had my pants down, he had his pants down, he tore my underwear." She said she never let go of the baby during the attack. And for some reason, the man decided to stop. "I was screaming my head off, the baby was screaming, the dog was barking -- I don't know what startled him, but all of the sudden he got up and ran out of the house," Heaven said. She said she doesn't feel comfortable baby-sitting at the home anymore. And Lacey said she won't feel comfortable until the attacker is arrested. "I'm hoping they find him, put him away," Lacey said. Weston police said they're investigating the assault and attempted rape. The teen described her attacker as in his late teens, thin, about 5 feet 6 inches tall and with bad acne. KING 5 News Seattle, Washington Salesman attacks Seattle woman in her apartment www.king5.com - September 5, 2007 Neighbors along the tree-lined streets of Eastlake say they aren't accustomed to violence. SEATTLE -- Police are searching for a door-to-door magazine salesman who attacked a customer, nearly strangling the 27-year-old woman in Seattle's Eastlake neighborhood. It happened last Friday afternoon at an apartment in the 2200 block of Franklin Avenue East. People who live on the narrow, tree lined streets of Eastlake are used to an occasional late night party but not much violence. "Well I was shocked, I mean it was a shame," said Alex Calderon. "I've lived in this neighborhood for many, many years and nothing like this has ever happened around here." The police report describes a viscous attack by the same man who was possibly seen by many neighbors going door-to-door selling magazine subscriptions. "The victim told police she actually bought two subscriptions from the suspect, but she refused to let him come in the house when he asked to use the restroom," said Seattle Police spokesman Mark Jamieson. Police say that was the right move. "If something doesn't feel right, and we all get those feelings, do the prudent thing. Don't open the door, don't invite him," said Jamieson. But the man came back two days later, saying he'd lost the paperwork and asked to come in and fill out new forms. This time, she let him in. It was while he was in there, she tells police, that he said "I'm sorry," then grabbed the woman by the throat until she passed out. The Police report says the victim awoke in bathtub and called for help. She will be OK, but police now have what they feel is a very dangerous suspect on the loose, who first apologizes then attacks for no apparent reason. The suspect is described as a light-skinned African American man, 5-feet 11-inches tall, 190 pounds. He's in his 20's and bald. By GARY CHITTIM / KING 5 News Seattle, Washington Salesman attacks Seattle woman in her apartment www.kirotv.com Seattle Washington Magazine Salesman Arrested, Accused Of Choking Woman POSTED: 5:25 pm PDT September 12, 2007 UPDATED: 5:37 pm PDT September 12, 2007 SEATTLE -- Police said they arrested a man in Oregon on Tuesday who is accused of choking a woman in Seattle’s Eastlake neighborhood while selling magazines. Authorities said the Northwest Fugitive Apprehension Task Force helped Seattle police identify 25-year-old Antonio Smokes. He was arrested in Gresham, Ore. Police said the magazine company he worked for had traveled through several states since the Aug. 31 attack. Investigators said Smokes tried to kill a 27-year-old Seattle woman who allowed him into her apartment after she bought a magazine subscription. The victim said Smokes followed her to the bathroom and choked her until she was unconscious. Investigators said they didn’t think Smokes knew he was the subject of a manhunt and believed the woman was dead. The choking victim, who survived, was able to identify Smokes in a police lineup. Prosecutors filed charges of second-degree assault and burglary against Smokes on Wednesday. Florida police said Smokes was released from jail last month after serving two years for an armed robbery charge and is currently on probation. Magazine Salesman Arrested, Accused Of Choking Woman |

KXAN NBC Austin Texas More Details Emerge Around Brutal Weekend Slaying www.kxan.com - February 14, 2007 A young man was found dead in the middle of a street in an Austin neighborhood early Saturday morning in the 6900 block of Blessing Avenue. And now, Austin police reveal new details about what happened. Police and neighbors tell us this area of town, in Northeast Austin, has a reputation as a neighborhood ripe with drugs and prostitution. Now police detectives say that reputation might have led 27-year-old Steven Talley to the area this past weekend, and it might have gotten him killed. When police first got the call before dawn Saturday, they didn't even know the victim's name. Talley's battered body lay in the road for all to see. "He was just the most wonderful person there was," said Carla Rowland, Talley's girlfriend. It was an end that those who love him cannot bring themselves to think about. "I talked to the sergeant and asked him, 'Are you sure?' Because I didn't want to believe it," Rowland said. From her home in Dayton, Texas, Talley's girlfriend told KXAN he was a good person who battled a terrible addiction. "He was getting a hold of it," Rowland said. "I do know that." "The tragedy of this is that we believe Steven was there in the neighborhood where he was killed, possibly for the purpose of purchasing some drugs," said Sgt. Hector Reveles with the APD Homicide Unit. Police also believe now that Talley was killed in the place where his body was found. They believe robbery is the motive, which could ultimately make this a capital murder case. But if anyone saw what happened, they haven't come forward. "People who see this are just as appalled by it as anyone else, and sometimes they may be scared to call," Reveles said, "but, hopefully, we'll get a call from somebody." That's what Rowland hopes, too. "It's the most important thing there is right now because whoever did it, I know there was no good reason for it," Rowland said. KXAN's Shannon Wolfson said, "It's still very hard for you?" Rowland said, "Yeah, it is. I just don't want to accept it because he was my life, my whole life." Talley lived in Arkansas, but he was in Texas on business. He'd been selling magazines door-to-door. Neighbors KXAN spoke with say they didn't see or hear a thing Saturday morning. If you have any information, please call police. KXAN NBC Austin Texas More Details Emerge Around Brutal Weekend Slaying Police: Stabbing suspect ID'd Austin Stateman COMPILED FROM STAFF REPORTS Saturday, April 04, 2009 AUSTIN, TEXAS http://www.statesman.com/search/content/news/stories/local/04/04/0404roundup.html Read This Story Austin police said they have arrested a suspect in a 2007 stabbing death whom they said they identified through DNA found at the scene, according to an arrest affidavit. Joseph Lee, 42, has been charged with murder in connection with a stabbing in the 6900 block of Blessing Avenue in Northeast Austin, the affidavit said. About 5 a.m. on Feb. 10, 2007, police found a man, later identified as Steven Talley, 27, lying in the street with signs of "obvious trauma," the affidavit said. The Police Department's DNA laboratory made the match last month, the affidavit said, and Lee was arrested on a parole violation charge March 28, according to the affidavit. During an interview with police on Tuesday, Lee told officers he stabbed a man during an altercation that night, the affidavit said. Lee is in the Travis County Jail, and bail has been set at $100,000, court records show. |

ARKANSAS DEMOCRAT-GAZETTE BY JIM BROOKS Body found in Memphis was woman lost in NLR www.arkansasonline.com - December 13, 2006 An Oregon woman reported missing last month in North Little Rock has been identified as the person whose body was found in a wooded area in southwest Memphis on Nov. 26, police said. Tracie Onaya Jones, 19, whose last known address was in Albany, Ore., was reported missing Nov. 17. She had last been seen two days earlier at the Pilot Truck Stop at 3300 Valentine Road in North Little Rock. Jones was in central Arkansas selling magazine subscriptions, police said. On Nov. 26, Memphis police were called to investigate a body found in a wooded area near Westview Road and Third Street. According to a news report, the body was clad in a pink shirt. When she was reported missing, Jones was wearing bluejeans and a gray hooded Georgia Tech sweat shirt, North Little Rock police said. Memphis police said there were several “apparent knife wounds” to her head and body. Memphis authorities were alerted to the North Little Rock missing person report regarding Jones by an employee of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, said North Little Rock police spokesman Sgt. Terry Kuykendall. “After providing the Memphis Police Department with information of Jones’ disappearance, including details of tattoos and clothing, it was determined there was a strong possibility the body discovered in Memphis was that of Ms. Jones,” Kuykendall said. On Monday, the body was positively identified. Jones was selling subscriptions for Epic Subscriptions of York, Pa., said company owner Robert Blair, who reported Jones missing and described himself as her employer and boyfriend. Blair said he was managing a group of 10 salespeople on Nov. 15 when they left a Malvern motel headed for the Little Rock area. “I took a group to the Rodney Parham area and dropped them off,” Blair said. But Jones wanted to go to a truck stop because she had good luck selling at places like that, so Blair dropped her off at the Pilot Truck Stop. “It turns out she’d worked there the Friday before,” Blair said. “When I let her out she was all motivated — she was stoked. “I stayed in contact with her throughout the day, to see if she wanted to be taken anywhere else. I talked to her in the afternoon and she told me she had six sales already and she was going to tear it up.” Blair said he called Jones’ cell phone again later in the afternoon, and his call went to her voice mail. “She didn’t call me back so I repeated the process of calling,” he said. “I waited a few minutes and she didn’t call me back, and this time my call went straight to voice mail like someone had turned the phone off.” But Blair didn’t immediately report his girlfriend missing. “I was thinking maybe she just made some poor decisions and decided to go out partying,” Blair said. “Because we travel so much we don’t have the opportunity to go out.” “The next day I called her family to see if they’d heard from her and they hadn’t,” he said. “I waited for the remainder of that day and then called police on Friday.” Blair said he met Jones about five months ago, when she first started working for Epic. “She was an excellent employee, one of the best we’ve hired in a while,” Blair said. He said Jones was living in Albany, Ore., a small town about 30 miles south of Portland, when an Epic salesman knocked on her door. “Tracie couldn’t afford a magazine, but she was interested in working for us,” he said. During her five months with the company, she had traveled halfway across the country, from Oregon to California, then to Nebraska and Arkansas. Blair said he told his other employees about Jones’ death on Monday, the same day he found out while he was being interviewed by FBI agents in Little Rock. “We broke the news to them last night, and they’re having a hard time dealing with it,” he said. “For me it’s very difficult, because I loved her.” ARKANSAS DEMOCRAT-GAZETTE BY JIM BROOKS Little Rock, Arkansas ARKANSAS DEMOCRAT-GAZETTE Website |

3 WCAX-TC NEWS wcax.com Burlington, Vermont Sex Offender Escapes Courthouse Burlington, Vt -- August 22, 2006 A door-to-door salesman facing minor charges escaped from the Burlington courthouse today after authorities learned he is a fugitive sex offender. It started Monday when police arrested an overly-aggressive door-to-door magazine salesman in Shelburne. Tuesday authorities learned he is a convicted California sex offender who jumped probation. David Banda,24, showed up in court as ordered Tuesday morning facing charges of disorderly conduct and unlawful trespass. Police arrested him Monday as he went door-to-door hawking magazine subscriptions in several Shelburne neighborhoods. Several residents called police claiming he was too aggressive -- and they were scared. " Um people described him as pushy, obnoxious, aggressive in his mannerisms," said Shelburne Police Corporal Aaron Noble. Shelburne police say they did check into his record, and found no indication that Banda was wanted anywhere. In court Banda pled innocent to the two misdemeanor charges and was about to be released on 500 dollars cash bail, until the prosecutor pointed out that Banda has a lengthy record of sex convictions with juvenile victims in California. "It has been confirmed that the defendant is on probation for a sex offense out of California. So I do believe that bail is appropriate your honor. I am concerned about the defendant's activity in the area. I think it'simportant to get to the bottom of this to keep the community safe," said Rosemary Gretkowski, Chittenden Deputy Prosecutor tothe judge. In response, Judge Robert Bent doubled bail to one thousand dollars immediately and he ordered Banda to stay in the courtroom while prosecutors called California authorities to see if they would seek to extradite Banda back to that state. But Banda was not shackled and sometime after two o'clock he made a clean getaway. Now police really would like to recapture this man, but they think he may have already skipped out of state with his friends. After the escape -- the judge increased the bail to 10-thousand dollars. As of Tuesday night Banda was still missing. 3 WCAX-TC NEWS wcax.com Burlington, Vermont Read This Story |

Pioneer Press twincities.com Forest Lake, Minnesota Peddler sought in sex case Posted on Thu, Nov. 30, 2006 BY ALEX FRIEDRICH Police say man, 21, was selling magazines when he targeted girl, 14 A man acting as a door-to-door salesman of magazines is wanted by police on suspicion of having sex with a 14-year-old Forest Lake girl he was soliciting. Authorities don't know where 21-year-old Quario Deeric Dozier lives or how to find him, though they say his last known address was in East Point, Ga. They say he sweet-talked a teen and her friend over several days last spring as he went door to door selling subscriptions. How much of a danger he presents is unclear, said Forest Lake Police Chief Clark Quiring. "I have no idea whether it's a crime of opportunity," he said, or whether he got into door-to-door sales to have access to women "who are vulnerable." According to a Washington County criminal complaint filed against him, Dozier came to the girl's door May 15 and struck up a conversation with the student, who went to Century Junior High School at the time. During the chat, he told her he was "trying to start a new life," the complaint states. The girl did not allow him into the house. A friend apparently gave Dozier the girl's number. He began "bugging" her with calls, the girl told police, yet they continued to talk on the phone — sometimes for as long as two hours. Meanwhile, Dozier had his own problems. Police stopped him May 16 and warned him to stop going door to door without a license, Quiring said. At the time, he told an officer he sold magazine subscriptions for Urban Development Solutions out of Grosse Pointe, Mich. But a woman who identified herself as the office manager there said no one by that name had worked for the organization in the past year. On May 16 or 17, as the teen and her friend were preparing to go to a wake, Dozier returned to her house, and she finally allowed him in, the complaint states. After he repeatedly urged her to have sex, she told investigators, she finally gave in after her friend left the house. They had sex in the basement bathroom near her room, the complaint states, and then proceeded to watch television. Soon the girl's grandmother came to the residence and asked Dozier who he was. He said his name was "Ryan," that he was 17 years old and recently had graduated from Forest Lake High School, the complaint states. The woman told investigators Dozier looked older than 17 and that she asked him why he was "sniffing around" a 14-year-old. She made him leave. Dozier returned to the teen's home about 1 a.m. May 19 after taking a cab from New Hope. But he failed to pay the cabdriver the fare — the amount wasn't stated — and police arrested Dozier after the cabbie flagged down a patrol car to complain, Quiring said. He was released later that day. The teen went to the police May 22, Quiring said. Dozier faces a charge of third-degree criminal sexual conduct. Quiring said police have heard about no other such incidents in Forest Lake. Alex Friedrich can be reached at afriedrich@pioneerpress.com or 651-228-2109. Read This Story --------------------------- Sexual assault suspect picked up in Georgia Wednesday, March 21, 2007 8:50 AM CDT. A Georgia man, 21, who disappeared last spring after being accused of sexually assaulting a Forest Lake girl, was arrested and extradited to Minnesota Feb. 27. The defendant, Quario Deeric Dozier, of East Point, Ga., is charged with criminal sexual conduct in the third degree. The complaint states that Dozier met the girl, who was then age 14, last May while selling magazines and vacuum cleaners door-to-door. The girl denied letting Dozier into the house at their first meeting, but he somehow got her phone number and started calling her. He told her he was trying to start a new life. A few days later, the man came to her door again and the girl allowed him in. It was at that time the sexual assault was alleged to have occurred. When the girl's grandmother arrived at the home, Dozier told her he was 17 and a Forest Lake High School graduate. She made him leave the house. When Dozier returned a few days later, he was arrested for theft of services for failing to pay a cab fare. Police identified him and discovered he had been warned regarding solicitation without a permit. The girl told her friend she had been raped. Forest Lake police were alerted by a teacher at Century Junior High, who told them a female student may have been sexually assaulted a few days earlier. A felony warrant was issued, but by that time, Dozier was gone. Recently picked up in Fulton County, Ga., he is currently in the Washington County jail awaiting appearance in court. Maximum penalty for the crime is 15 years in prison and a $30,000 fine. presspubs.com White Bear Lake, MN Read This Story |

Man posing as salesman sexually assaults teenager ABC13 Eyewitness News (8/02/05 - HOUSTON) — A northwest Harris County neighborhood is on edge after a door-to-door salesman sexually assaults a special needs teenage girl. Police released this sketch of a man they say posed as a salesman and assaulted a young girl. It happened back in mid-June in the home near Perry Road and FM 1960. Investigators released a sketch of the man who they say was trying to sell magazines. He gained access inside the home by pretending to have special needs himself. Authorities say that is what the suspect used to gain the 17-year-old's trust. "This individual is a predator and he is out there and he's knocking on doors, going door to door. If you or your children don't know already not to open your doors to anyone, please don't open the door," said the victim's mother, who we're not identifying. The so-called salesman has not been found. But investigators believe the attacker is a young white man with blonde hair and blue eyes either in his late teens or early twenties. If you have any information, you are urged to call Houston area Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS. You will remain anonymous. Officials with the Harris County Sheriff's Office released a sketch Monday of a man wanted for questioning in the June 16 sexual assault of a 17-year-old girl inside her family's home near Perry Road and F.M. 1960. Deputies said the man was in a northwest Harris County neighborhood on June 16 when the girl opened the door and the man forced his way in. Investigators believe the attacker had been in the area before, selling magazines door to door. "She was very trusting, had no reason to believe anyone would hurt her and that trust has now been broken and she's going to have to rebuild some of that," the girl's mother told Local 2. Authorities need help identifying the man or the name of the company that had individuals selling magazines in the area. The attacker has been described as a 20-year-old white man with an average build and some muscle. He is 5 feet 10 inches tall, and has blond hair and blue eyes. Caution urged with door-to-door magazine sellers By LISE FISHER Sun staff writer April 08. 2005 6:01AM Officers are asking Gainesville residents to beware of a group of door-to-door magazine salespeople who may be after more than getting subscriptions. "I believe they're casing residences and doing crimes of opportunity," Gainesville Police Detective Michael Douglas said Thursday. Police have seen a "spike" in reports of residential and vehicle burglaries and armed robberies in neighborhoods just north of the University of Florida and along SW 13th Street where the magazine sales also have been taking place, Douglas said. Officers also have received complaints about the salespeople from residents who believed they were being "set up," instead of asked to buy a subscription, police spokesman Sgt. Keith Kameg said. The salespeople have been in Gainesville since late March and involve a group of about 10 to 20 young adults. Officers have reports of four robberies in the area, including one March 28 on NW 2nd Avenue that has been linked to a magazine salesman with this group. Police have issued a warrant for a man who got into an apartment by telling the resident he was trying to sell magazines. The man, identified as Antonio M. Smokes, 23, of Fort Lauderdale, came to the apartment and showed credentials, Douglas said. He was invited into the home, saw where the resident kept his money, then took a knife that was on the counter and demanded the cash. About $1,000 was stolen. "My issue with this is I would like to inform the people out there, if you see people knocking on doors, please call the police," Douglas said. The salespeople, including the man wanted in the March robbery, have presented credentials from a company called American Global, the detective said. Officers have not verified if the credentials are legitimate, Kameg said. "Please don't let them in (your) homes, and call police so we can identify people," Douglas said. Douglas also noted a case last year in Massachusetts where a magazine salesman, who had a prior criminal history, was accused of raping a mentally impaired woman. He worked for Paragon Management, the parent company of American Global, the officer said. The company could not be reached for comment Thursday. Anyone with information about the robbery or other similar cases can call Detective Douglas at 334-2349. Lise Fisher can be reached at (352) 374-5092 or fisherl@gvillesun.com. Read This Story |

Reward offered in slaying of Cerritos woman Long Beach Press Telegram By Kevin Butler Staff writer Monday, February 14, 2005 - CERRITOS — It has been almost three months since gunfire disrupted the quiet life on Jeanette Avenue. Kristine Holmstedt was shot to death at about 8:30 p.m. Nov. 19 the day before her 64th birthday in the doorway of her home in the 17000 block of the secluded cul-de-sac. Holmstedt's family members said they hope a $20,000 reward will encourage a person to come forward and provide information leading to a conviction. "She always had a positive outlook on life," said daughter Shanon Sanford. Kristine Holmstedt and her husband, John, had lived for 37 years in their one-story ranch house near Shoemaker Avenue and Artesia Boulevard. She was interrupted while doing laundry in the garage, and had made her way to the front door, where she was shot at close range by someone just outside the front door, Sanford said. She said her hearing-impaired father emerged from the bathroom that night, heard gunfire while he was in the hallway, and rushed to his wife, who died at the scene. John Holmstedt, a retired truck driver, has visited his wife's grave every day since the murder, Sanford said. Sanford said she especially wants information on a door-to-door magazine salesman who came to the house two weeks before the murder. The man became angry at Holmstedt, calling her "bitch," Sanford said. The opinionated, outspoken woman may have angered the man by saying "a couple of things that maybe she shouldn't have," Sanford said. Los Angeles County Sheriff's investigators handling the case could not be reached for comment. Anyone with information on the case can call the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department at (323) 890-5500. In addition, Sanford asked that tips be forwarded to a private investigator, Thom Taylor, at (866) 820-2880. |
This case still remains open and the current reward has increased to $60,000.
The City of Cerritos has issued a $25,000 reward, Los Angeles County a $10,000
and the family offers $25,000.

The skull found in Saratoga County has been identified as Hammond. GREENFIELD -- In the end, it all came down to the teeth. Authorities on Thursday said dental records - along with some trademark cavity work - led them to the conclusion that remains discovered in rural Saratoga County earlier this week belonged to Jennifer M. Hammond, a Colorado resident who went missing in the area six years ago. DNA tests that could confirm the woman's identity aren't likely to be produced for weeks, but police said there is a "high degree of confidence" that the remains, primarily skull fragments, are indeed Hammond's. "Initially, we didn't think there was sufficient evidence to do the dental comparison, but we were fortunate that there was, in fact, enough there," Saratoga County District Attorney James Murphy said in announcing the identity at a press conference held at his office Thursday. Police said Hammond, originally from Littleton, Colo., was in the area during the summer of 2003 while working for the Atlantic Circulation company, which sells magazine subscriptions door-to-door. Hammond, then 18 years old, was last seen at the Creek & Pines Trailer Park in Ballston Spa in August 2003, when she failed to make a scheduled pick-up with her employer. A bus ticket she had purchased from Albany to Colorado was never claimed and her belongings were later found abandoned in an Albany hotel. A missing persons report was not filed until November 2003, police said, noting that Hammond had previously abandoned the company only to return later. No significant leads were ever developed, but Saratoga County Sheriff James Bowen said his department's investigation had remained ongoing, and that Hammond's parents had been contacted as recently as six months ago to see if she had turned up. Bowen said he felt some satisfaction in knowing Hammond's family would now have a better idea of what happened to her. "Everyone wants to know where their family members are, so if we can bring a little bit of closure, even if it's sad closure, we're satisfied," Bowen said. The identification has compelled police to renew their investigation, and to treat the case as a homicide. Police would not comment on possible motives, or if there were any local suspects being considered as part of a joint investigation by State Police and the Sheriff's Office. "It's way too early to speculate on that," State Police Maj. William Sprague said. Police also backed away from drawing any possible connections to other cases in the area, including that of Christiana White. White, of Milton, was found stabbed to death in the Daketown State Forest in Greenfield in March 2006. The site is just miles from the location, a wooded area off of Fox Hill Road in Greenfield, where Hammond's skeletal remains were located earlier this week by a hunter. Murphy did say, however, that the identification will bring more resources to bear on the case, and that efforts would now be ramped up. "Certainly, our search will broaden in scope," he said. Hammond, the wait and hope are over. Police on Thursday positively identified skull fragments discovered Monday in a remote part of Greenfield as belonging to the Colorado woman who was last seen at the Creek and Pines Trailer Park, in Milton, in late August 2003. Police say they’re handling the case as a homicide, but have no suspects. “Everyone wants to know where their loved one is,” Saratoga County Sheriff James Bowen said. “At least it will give closure to the family.” Hammond, originally from Littleton, Colo., was selling magazines in the area with her employer, Atlantic Circulation Co. She failed to appear at a designated pickup point and was never heard or seen from again. Remains found Monday were identified with a check of dental records involving a number of unsolved local missing persons cases. “There was sufficient surfaces as well as dental work that had been done to compare it to her records,” said Saratoga County District Attorney James Murphy III. State Police Major William Sprague said, “We were fortunate to get an identification this early in the case. We have found nothing else other than what secure on the first and second day (Monday and Tuesday). We are still looking for other things.” The sheriff’s office and state police are conducting a joint investigation. “They’ll continue to search that area of the woods,” Murphy said. “Nearby, there might be more remains or bones. Certainly the search will broaden in scope.” Check back at www.saratogian.com or in Friday's newspaper for additional details on this developing story. Police charge 17-year-old in sexual attack in Fern Creek The Courier-Journal Louisville, Kentucky A 17-year-old boy from Texas who had been selling magazines door to door in Jefferson County is wanted in last month's attack on a 27-year-old woman in Fern Creek, police said yesterday. The boy, whose name was not released because of his age, is charged with first-degree sodomy and attempted murder, said Officer Robert Biven, a Jefferson County Police spokesman. Investigators believe he left the area, Biven said. The attack took place May 23 at The Oxford apartments on Hames Trace inside the woman's apartment. A solicitor knocked on her door, then when the woman let him into the house, he pulled out a gun and sexually assaulted her, police have said. The attacker fled after firing the gun at least twice at her, missing both times. The victim identified her attacker through photos, Biven said. Police said the youth had been an employee with Interstate Subscription Services, based in San Antonio, which has more than 100 independent contractors nationwide who handle solicitors. A company representative yesterday said she had not heard of the case. The youth apparently joined the company while in the Houston area, Biven said. ''We don't believe he is with the group anymore,'' Biven said. The youth has ties to several areas of the United States, and law-enforcement officials are trying to locate him, Biven said.
