Subject: Plea from a Mother re: Door-to-Door Magazine Crew Reform

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/02/21/us/21magcrew.html

Dear Ms. Link,

Surely youv'e read the New York Time's front page national news on mag crews and the corruption of our youth. I have spoke with Phil Ellenbecker today after endorsing sb251 yesterday from his website.

I woke up with our northern California morning news yesterday morning and was shocked to see that a young lady my oldest daughter went to school with had died. Something in my gut did not sit right and I began to investigate her death.

Her obitituary is in the Redding Record Searchlight newspaper www.redding.com and click on link to obits and the date 2/23/07. Her name was Blair Dimmick - she died in Marshall, Texas last Saturday. She was working for a magazine crew. Somehow she was led into the industry while waiting the 8-mth period to take her exams from graduating beauty school.

Surely you are a mom yourself and can't imagine the pain if your child ended up dead at such an early age. I brought over a dozen white roses to her family this afternoon and information on magazine crews. They don't have the toxicology reports as yet and when they do, I bet drugs were involved. I even bet that she overdosed after doing drugs and the "crew" didn't want to call 9-1-1 for fear of being busted themselves!!! These people from what I'm learning do not posess any "personal integrity" and are out for themselves.

I urge your organization to wake up and become AWARE and take action against the abuse of our kids and also the people unsuspectingly victimized in their own homes by criminals hired by these fly-by-night companies making huge profits from their naive victims.

Mark my words...I see evil and I fight it! I can't stand it when children are hurt and elderly people are hurt. That to me is the lowest form of a human that hurts the innocent and vulnerable

I was thinking today of the possibility of speaking at high schools to bring awareness in an attempt to prevent them from making the grim mistake of hooking up with companies that are scam artists when they graduate.

Blair's parents are professionals in our community and gave the best to their daughter. She could go to the university of her choice. They live in an expansive beautiful home...they gave her their love and their wisdom - the did the best they could and yet it wasn't enought to protect her in this world. Blair had to find it out her way. She was lost for a time and didn't make the grades for college and was trying to do something with her life....now she is gone and she will always hold a special place in my heart as well as my daughter's.

I cried all day yesterday and went through pictures of her and my daughter and made a collage for my daughter to hold onto in her grief.

Please I beg you - stand up and pay attention to us parents crying for help in saving our kids.
