Jacob M. Baker, 27, stood mute with his attorney Timothy Henney at his side as he was found guilty of vehicular homicide Thursday afternoon.

The jury returned the verdict in Columbia County Circuit Court after 52 minutes of deliberation. Baker was convicted in connection with the death of Scott A. Cook.

Cook died Jan. 26, 2002, after the van Baker was driving crossed the center line on Highway 16 in the town of Lewiston and struck Cook's car head-on. The 42-year-old Wisconsin Dells man was pronounced dead at the scene.

During the one-and-a-half-day trial, the jury examined whether Baker, a traveling salesman of no permanent address and formerly from Pennsylvania, was guilty of two felony counts - one for operating a vehicle while intoxicated and another for causing death with a prohibited blood alcohol concentration.

Both charges against Baker have a maximum penalty of 60 years in prison. Judge Dan George also revoked Baker's bail. Baker, who has been in custody since the accident, remains in the Columbia County Jail pending sentencing. No sentencing date has been set.
