Inmates knock hole in ceiling, attempt escape

Two Hall County Jail inmates attempted to escape from their cell Wednesday by knocking a hole in the ceiling.

David Bonnstetter, 22, of Fremont and Adam N. Sisk, 20, no address available, were charged with felony escape.

Hall County Chief Deputy Chris Rea said the two men used "an instrument of some type" to knock a hole in the concrete ceiling, which has wire reinforcements.

The men were able to climb into the hole, but they could not have escaped the building because of concrete fixtures within the ceiling structure, Rea said.

The men were not in the hole when jail authorities discovered it, Rea said.

In an unrelated case, Curtis K. Williams, 27, of Omaha was charged with attempted escape for an incident on Tuesday.

Williams had also knocked a hole in the ceiling of his cell. However, it was not big enough for him to crawl through, Rea said.

"It would have been physically impossible for him to fit through," Rea said.

The ceilings at the jail are very low, making them easily accessible from the top of the bunk beds, he said.

Preliminary hearings were set for 3:30 p.m. Dec. 6 for Bonnstetter and Sisk. Their bonds were set at 10 percent of $25,000.

Williams will have a preliminary hearing at 1:30 p.m. Dec. 4.

His bond was set at 10 percent of $5,000.

All three men remain inmates at the jail.
