Autopsy may yield answers Body of young woman found near Hermosa. By Deb Holland, Journal Staff Writer Rapid City Journal; Rapid City, South Dakota This story ran: Sunday April 25, 2004 HERMOSA -- Law enforcement officials are hoping autopsy results expected Monday will provide more clues into the death of a 21-year-old California woman whose body was found Friday near Hermosa. Kristina Moore of Lancaster, Calif., was found dead in a field adjacent to Daughenbaugh Road, about three miles northeast of Hermosa. Moore, who was selling magazine subscriptions door to door, was reported missing when she failed to show up for her scheduled meeting with co-workers at 9 p.m. Thursday. As a salesperson for Liberator/Imperial Sales, she had worked the afternoon and early evening of Wednesday, April 21, in Rapid Valley. She was last seen in the O'Brien Street area. "Our guys have been out all last night and today canvassing neighborhoods (in Rapid Valley) and trying to establish where she was. If someone had seen her and we haven't talked to them yet, please give us a call," Pennington County Sheriff Don Holloway said Saturday afternoon. Law enforcement officials are not sure whether Moore's death is a random act. "It's too early to tell if it was random," Holloway said. "There is no indication that she wasn't a victim of circumstances." A resident, who lives off South Highway 79 near Hermosa, spotted the body of the petite, brown-haired Moore in a field, Holloway said. The Pennington County Emergency Services Communication Center received the call about 11 a.m. Friday. The death is being treated as a homicide, Holloway said. A news conference is scheduled early this week. More details of the investigation will be provided then, according to Lt. Lynn McLane of the Pennington County Sheriff's Office. People in Hermosa knew about the incident but were tight-lipped. A clerk who answered the phone Saturday at the Fresh Start convenience store on the north edge of Hermosa said she was not allowed to talk about the death. Roberta Upton, who works at the local Post Office, said she worked Friday and Saturday but didn't hear a word about the body being found north of town. Anyone with information concerning the death is asked to call the Pennington County Sheriff's Office at 394-6115.
